The Yaden Lab was founded to study intense and meaningful altered states of consciousness from interdisciplinary perspectives.
It is part of the Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Associate Professor/
Griffiths Professor of Psychedelic Research
David B. Yaden, PhD

David received his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and did his Postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins. He is an Associate Professor and the inaugural Griffiths Professor of Psychedelic Research at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is a Research Associate at the University of Oxford and the co-founder and Co-Director of the Hub at Oxford for Psychedelic Ethics (HOPE). He studies brief experiences with the potential for long-term positive impact. His current focus is on explaining psychedelic experiences, including their risks, benefits, and mechanisms.
Postdoctoral Fellows
Our postdoctoral fellows receive training from psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, and engage in frequent interdisciplinary work. We have multiple psychedelic clinical trials and other randomized controlled trials with psychoactive substances on-going. Postdocs are independent scientists who receive training while advancing their own research programs.
